Hi, I’m Karen Gillman and I’m looking forward to sharing my journey after WLS with you on obesitynewstoday.com.
November 2004 I had gastric band (Lap-Band®) surgery, which helped me shed 145 pounds. Through tips and tricks I have learned along the way, as well as those I have personally developed, I have maintained the weight loss and gained a new life! I am openly sharing my insight with others who are looking to do the same.
In early 2000, my weight crept up to an all-time high of over 300 lbs. I found myself going through the motions in a lifestyle I didn’t love, living in a body that was weighing me down mentally and physically. There were several indications that made me realize if I didn’t make some drastic changes my future would never match that of what I had dreamed of.
After living the banded lifestyle for over ten years I decided to write a book detailing the “before-during-and after” of the account. My book is called “It’s Never Too Late’ A Ten-Year Journey with Weight Loss Surgery.” I’m on a mission to help others combat their battle with obesity by providing proven, practical life-skills. Join me on a fun ride battling the bulge!
Most people who meet me today never suspect my story. When they learn of my victory with weight loss they are encouraged and find a newfound belief within themselves. I enjoy talking with people in every stage of the journey. Those considering WLS, family members, as well as those who are living the lifestyle.
I serve on the Patient Advisory Board for Apollo Endosurgery, the owners of the Lap-Band System; am a member of the Obesity Action Coalition; and have been featured on Daytime TV, Primetime TV, CTN, Channel 10, and a variety of radio shows. My message is one of encouragement and hope in the never-ending battle of healthy living.
Outside of the WLS world I am a Christian, a wife, mother to two young children, doggy mommy to two, VP of On Point Executive Center, Co-Founder of Charity Chics, and Treasurer of Fulfill Your Destiny. I also find great joy in being an advocate for adoption, an Ambassador for Working Women of Tampa Bay, a Notary of Public, and a host of various monthly events serving entrepreneurs. I love all creative arts, crafts and make-overs of any kind. I am a graduate of Framingham State College and have lived on both the west and east coast.
So, now that you know a little bit about me, I would love to learn about YOU! Post a comment in the thread below and introduce yourself. If you post your social links I’ll be sure to connect with you on each of the platforms. And, I hope you will do the same with me!
